The honest verdict first
ChatGPT Record is a strong argument for anyone who already lives in ChatGPT: recording on the Mac, live transcription, speaker labels and up to four hours per session (240 minutes), and afterwards the entire ChatGPT toolbox sits on top of your transcript. The limits are just as clear: macOS only, Plus plan and up, no documented offline operation, and on Free, Plus and Pro accounts transcripts can flow into training by default. Bygmind is the counter-model for the field: iOS and Android, processing on the device, 25 languages, fully usable offline, no training. If you sit at a Mac and love ChatGPT, Record gives you a lot for free. If you record on the go or handle confidential content, you need the other architecture.

The three differences that actually matter
Mac desk or real world
ChatGPT Record lives in the macOS app. For video calls and brainstorms at your desk that is convenient, but the client conversation on site, the inspection and the drive in between happen without a Mac. Bygmind is built for exactly those situations: phone out, record, done, even in a dead zone.
What happens to your transcripts
OpenAI deletes the audio after transcription, but on Free, Plus and Pro accounts transcripts and canvases can flow into model training by default, as long as the "Improve the model for everyone" setting stays on. You can turn it off, but you have to know about it. If you delete the conversation, the canvas and transcript are removed within 30 days. On Business, Enterprise and Edu this is excluded by default. With Bygmind the transcript is created on your device and stays there; training is technically impossible.
A generalist with an add-on, or a focused tool
The strength of ChatGPT Record is what comes after: your transcript sits inside the most powerful general-purpose assistant there is. Bygmind answers the question differently: the agent with skills runs directly on the device and specializes in conversation documentation, from speaker separation with voice profiles to the finished protocol. And if you want OpenAI models, you connect them with your own API key.
Common questions about ChatGPT Record and Bygmind
Not on a phone or Windows, as far as we can tell: Record exists only in the macOS desktop app, for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu (as of October 2026, per the OpenAI help article). A meetings plugin is in beta on the Mac for Pro and Business; OpenAI lists Windows and Enterprise support as coming soon. Offline use is not described in the documentation. Bygmind runs on iOS and Android and works fully offline, with a desktop version planned.

According to OpenAI, Record is available from the Plus plan up (as of October 2026); current prices are listed on the OpenAI pricing page. Bygmind is free to use, offline mode needs no account, and premium features arrive as an optional upgrade.
That depends on the plan and the use case. On Business, Enterprise and Edu, content is excluded from training by default, while Free, Plus and Pro have an opt-out. EU data residency for Record is not described in the OpenAI documentation, so ask OpenAI or check your contract. Confidential content calls for a careful review. Bygmind processes on the device by default, which removes the transfer question for core operation.
