Bygmind vs. ChatGPT Record
ChatGPT Record brings meeting capture into the ChatGPT app on the Mac, with the full power of OpenAI models behind it. Bygmind records where ChatGPT does not go: on your phone, offline, on-device.
The honest verdict first
ChatGPT Record is a strong argument for anyone who already lives in ChatGPT: recording on the Mac, live transcription, by now with speaker labels and up to four hours per session, and afterwards the entire ChatGPT toolbox sits on top of your transcript. The limits are just as clear: macOS only, Plus plan and up, pure cloud processing, and on Free, Plus and Pro accounts transcripts can flow into training by default. Bygmind is the counter-model for the field: iOS and Android, processing on the device, 25 languages, fully usable offline, no training. If you sit at a Mac and love ChatGPT, Record gives you a lot for free. If you record on the go or handle confidential content, you need the other architecture.
ChatGPT Record is the better choice if you
- already work with ChatGPT Plus or higher on a Mac
- want to keep working with the transcript right away (email, plan, code)
- mostly document English-language meetings at your desk
- do not want to introduce another app for notes
Bygmind is the better choice if you
- record on your phone (ChatGPT Record only exists in the Mac app)
- work on site, on the go or without a connection
- need full quality beyond English (Bygmind ships 25 languages on-device)
- must ensure recordings and transcripts never end up in training or a US cloud
- want recurring speakers recognized automatically via voice profiles
- want to start free, with no subscription required

The three differences that actually matter
Mac desk or real world
ChatGPT Record lives in the macOS app. For video calls and brainstorms at your desk that is convenient, but the client conversation on site, the inspection and the drive in between happen without a Mac. Bygmind is built for exactly those situations: phone out, record, done, even in a dead zone.
What happens to your transcripts
OpenAI deletes the audio after transcription, but on Free, Plus and Pro accounts transcripts and notes can flow into model training by default, as long as the "Improve the model" setting stays on. You can turn it off, but you have to know about it. With Bygmind the transcript is created on your device and stays there; training is technically impossible.
A generalist with an add-on, or a focused tool
The strength of ChatGPT Record is what comes after: your transcript sits inside the most powerful general-purpose assistant there is. Bygmind answers the question differently: the agent with skills runs directly on the device and specializes in conversation documentation, from speaker separation with voice profiles to the finished protocol. And if you want OpenAI models, you connect them with your own API key.
Common questions about ChatGPT Record and Bygmind
No. As of June 2026, Record is exclusive to the macOS desktop app, starting at the Plus plan. Bygmind runs on iOS and Android, with a desktop version planned.
Not on the audio, which is deleted after transcription. Transcripts and generated notes can be used for training on Free, Plus and Pro accounts, however, if the default-on "Improve the model for everyone" setting stays enabled; Business and Enterprise content is excluded. With Bygmind, locally processed content never leaves the device, which rules out training entirely.
OpenAI itself states that Record currently works best in English and that accuracy for other languages varies. Bygmind transcribes 25 languages as first-class citizens, locally on the device.
No. Processing runs on OpenAI servers and needs a connection. Bygmind works fully offline: recording, transcription, speaker separation and summaries all run on the device.
Record requires at least ChatGPT Plus ($20 per month); the Free and Go plans do not include Record (as of June 2026). Bygmind is free to use, offline mode needs no account, and premium features arrive as an optional upgrade.
That depends on the plan and the use case. OpenAI offers EU data residency only for Enterprise and Edu workspaces, not for Plus, Pro or Business; add the training opt-out topic on consumer accounts. Confidential content calls for a careful review. Bygmind processes on the device by default, which removes the transfer question for core operation.
