The three differences that actually matter
Training on user data
Otter states in its own privacy policy (effective June 16, 2026) that it trains its AI on de-identified recordings and transcripts, and that data-labeling providers receive data for that purpose. A way to opt out is not documented. That is communicated transparently and acceptable for many use cases. With Bygmind the question never comes up: content processed locally on your device is simply not available for training.
Where your conversations live
Otter stores transcripts and recordings in the AWS cloud (a US provider); EU data residency is not documented. For confidential content (clients, patients, HR conversations) that means extra review effort. Bygmind processes on the device; sync via Bygmind Cloud, your own Nextcloud or S3 is opt-in and stays your decision.
