The honest verdict first
Plaud builds excellent recording hardware: the Note Pro ($189) captures phone calls and in-person conversations, the NotePin works as a wearable, and the platform offers 112 languages, strong certifications such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II, and a free Starter plan with 300 minutes per month. Recording happens offline on the device, but syncing and AI processing run in the cloud (with an EU region in Frankfurt) and, per the Help Center, typically need an internet connection. Device plus Pro subscription quickly add up to $250 to $400 in the first year. Bygmind needs no extra hardware: your phone records, transcribes, separates speakers and summarizes, all locally and fully offline. If you want a dedicated second device on your body or your phone, Plaud is a strong pick. If your phone is already in your pocket and you want processing to stay on the device, you do not need a second gadget.

The three differences that actually matter
A second device, or the phone you already own
Plaud bets on dedicated hardware: buy it, charge it, pair it, carry it. That has real advantages for heavy phone-call use or as a wearable. Plaud Desktop for meetings and calls also requires a Plaud device. Bygmind bets on the device already in your pocket. No second gadget, no second battery, no pairing, and the microphones in modern phones are more than good enough for conversations in a room.
Where the AI does its work
Plaud records offline, but syncing and AI processing run in the cloud and, per the Help Center, typically need an internet connection. Data centers sit in the US, Frankfurt, Japan and Singapore; users in Europe get EU-hosted subprocessors, and Plaud does not train on user data by default unless users opt in. That is documented, but it does not answer the question that actually matters: server location is not the same as legal jurisdiction. Providers with US ties are subject to their home country's disclosure laws no matter where the data center sits. Bygmind transcribes and summarizes right on your phone, so the recording never leaves your device in the first place. In a basement, on a plane or in a dead zone you get the finished result, not just an audio file, and the third-country question never comes up for this step.

That is solid work, but it does not answer the question that actually matters: server location is not the same as legal jurisdiction. It remains cloud processing with AI models from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, companies with US ties that are subject to US law that can be compelled to disclose data regardless of where the server sits. That is something your privacy review needs to cover. Bygmind processes on the device by default, so core operation involves no transfer at all, and no third-country or CLOUD Act question arises.
Plaud says it does not train on user data by default unless users opt in, and commits by contract in its DPA to zero training and zero data retention. With Bygmind the question never arises for locally processed content: it does not leave your device.
